Announcing the new People in Need Institute

“I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me". Matthew 25:40

Vision for 2024

New year, new beginning and new movement for the People in Need organization.

I am Fady. I want to share with you about our vision in 2024. It is about our new educational center called the People in Need Institute.

The situation in Lebanon worsens with time and the most harm is caused to children. It deprives them of their most important right, which is education. Of course, this affects the future of an entire generation.

What is the reason behind the fact that 80% of refugees are illiterate?

1 - The reason is that they cannot afford the cost of studying

2 - Student overcrowding in schools.

3 - Student overcrowding in the classroom (50 students in one classroom).

4 - Demonstrations that often lead to the closure of schools

5 - The absence of the Lebanese government, the suspension of the Ministry of Education, and the absence of teachers due to non-payment of their salaries.

Our vision is to provide an after-school program at the site of a private school operated by the Syriac Orthodox Church in Zahle. Through partnering with our donors, who provide either one-time or regular donations, and by working with the church and at its facility, we aim to serve even more children from a variety of backgrounds, including children from impoverished families who cannot afford sending them to any school, those who have fallen behind academically due to inconsistent schooling, and those who lack access to educational resources such as newly arrived refugees. We want to give them dreams and hopes so they can grow up healthy and happy.

The People in Need Institute

1 – Teacher’s salary at US $250 a month, with the goal of raising $1500 a month to support 6 teachers (teaching 90 students), which represents 80% of the budget of our after-school program
2 – $500 a month classroom rental fee paid to the Syriac Orthodox Archdiocese of Baalbek and Zahle
3 - Free transportation for all after-school program attendees, as many cannot afford to go to school due to the high cost of fuel and transportation
4 - Free textbooks, teaching and school supplies

Subjects to be Covered

1- Math
2- Arabic
3- English
4- Science
5- Social-emotional Support
6- The Bible. We believe biblical knowledge such as those taught in Sunday schools and Bible studies are integral to a holistic learning for children.

It is important that we care for these children, nurture them spiritually and morally, and lead them to live lives for the glory of God. God will bless these children through us and through your contribution just as Jesus said in Matthew 25:40.
